Water brake absorbers require a continuous water supply capable of delivering a minimum of 1 GPM for every 20 horsepower generated by the engine. Based on the specific brake configuration and load control valve used, the system typically operates with a regulated inlet pressure between 30 and 60 PSI, measured dynamically at the NSW load valve inlet. The water supply must be designed to tolerate dead-head operation, or include a bypass line to prevent pump overheating. For stable and safe operation, static (dead-head) pressure should remain within approximately 10–15 PSI above the normal operating pressure.
Engines up to 20 HP require a minimum water flow of 1 GPM at approximately 12 PSI or higher.
Engines up to 160 HP require a minimum water flow of 8 GPM at approximately 15 PSI or higher.
Engines up to 200 HP require a minimum water flow of 10 GPM at approximately 18 PSI or higher.
Water pump rated for 60 PSI with a flow capacity of 15 GPM per 100 horsepower.
